The Proserpine Entertainment Centre (PEC) was reconstructed by the Whitsunday Regional Council after the original centre was damaged beyond repair during Cyclone Debbie in March 2017.

The Queensland Government committed circa $14 million to the new state-of-the-art PEC, while the Australian Government provided $5 million towards the project from the Building our Regions – Community Development Grants fund. The PEC was the cultural heart and soul of the town.

Project Overview

The design features a new multi-purpose auditorium and stage, retractable tiered seating with 380 seats, a kitchen, café, bar, ticketing area, toilets, and dressing rooms. Other notable features include a garden and street foyer, a cinema screen, an art installation, a loading dock and scenery dock, technical theatre equipment, an outdoor performance area, and an upgrade of the War Memorial.

Our Role

The RP Infrastructure (RPI) team assisted the Whitsunday Regional Council with the planning and delivery of the works. Major structural works on the existing building and construction on the interior of the new building were completed. Our team’s understanding of the specific needs of construction in North Queensland ensured the project progressed well and was completed on time.
