Institute of Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation
(IISRI) Development
Featured projects
The Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI) facility is a 3,000 sqm building at Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds campus providing research laboratories, workspace and technical spaces.
Our Role
RP Infrastructure (RPI) was single selected by Deakin University to complete the project management and superintendency of the development of IISRI. The project was run by RPI as a competitive design project through its first phase with two contractors – one of whom was selected to complete the remaining design and construction of the facility.
RPI managed the initial design development up to approximately 25% Schematic Design and prepared a PPR. At this time RP managed a select Expression of Interest issued to contractors for a two-stage design and construction process.
RPI managed the Stage 1 Competitive Design Phase with the two contractors and their design teams through to a point where both contractors provided a GMP for the remaining design and construction of the works. We completed the tender evaluation and preparation of the Contract then managed the stakeholder coordination with Deakin to complete the design.
RPI also acted as the superintendent under the AS4902 Contract for the Construction of the works.
Key Challenge
A key challenge was managing the non-traditional procurement method, ensuring both the contractor and the client understood the intention and outcomes required. It was a successful procurement model, resulting in the project being delivered approximately 2.5 months ahead of the original date for Practical Completion.
