RP Infrastructure

The Council of the City of Sydney is working with Greenland (Sydney) Bathurst Street Development Pty Ltd (Greenland) to develop a cultural facility as part of a proposed commercial development in the city. The facility, in its current form, includes five floors embedded in a commercial development used by a mix of creative disciplines to encourage engagement, networks and collaboration across a range of art forms.

Project Overview

The overall building creates space for dedicated creative practice by professional or semi-professional artists and creative teams. Each floor contains a mix of practical workspaces customised for the needs of a range of art form disciplines. Some floors include office/meeting spaces and spaces for sector peak bodies and organisations.

The spaces will host a mix of early career, mid-career, senior artists and creative teams to encourage upward and downward mentoring. One live/work residential space provides annual opportunity for the Lord Mayor/City to announce/promote the initiative.

The cultural sub-sectors being catered for by the facility include theatre, dance, music, visual arts and digital media.

Our Role

RP Infrastructures’ initial role on the project was to prepare a detailed Functional Brief and set of Technical Specifications in consultation with internal and external stakeholders and a team of specialist consultants on behalf of the City of Sydney. Our role was subsequently extended to include negotiations with Greenland over the finalisation of the Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) scope and to ensure that the design developed by Greenland was in accordance with the VPA.
