The Gold Coast Light Rail project is located in a complex, congested, brown-field urban environment, impacting a wide range of new and existing services infrastructure, as well as residents, businesses, and visitors. Stages One and Two of the project, consisting of a total of 20 kilometres of track stretching from Broadbeach to Helensvale, have already been delivered.

Project Overview

Over the past 11 years, the RP Infrastructure (RPI) team has held various positions in assisting the Department of Transport and Main Roads and Gold Coast City Council on the project. After delivering Stage One and Two, the team planned and created a Business Case for Stage Three which extends 6.5 kilometres from Broadbeach to Burleigh.

Our Role

Throughout the project, we have provided support for the three Business Case stages, including Project Management for the initial Early Works Package for Stage One; Project Management for the Gold Coast University Hospital underground station; PUP coordination, Land Value Capture management, Property, Legislation, and Approvals management; Client’s Commercial management, claims assessment and variation analysis; as well as Design and Construction management, Commercial management for PPP, and PPP Contract Administration for PPP contractor works.

Key Challenge

RPI applied the knowledge gained during Stage One to guarantee that the 2018 Commonwealth Games deadline for Stage Two delivery was met, despite delays in funding commitments and delivery problems with the civil works contractor during Stage One.
