The Australian War Memorial is one of the most visited museums in Australia, attracting approximately one million visitors each year. It is an institution with a national and international standing and extremely high standards for its built environment and exhibition presentations.

Project Overview

RP Infrastructure began its long association with the Australian War Memorial in 1996 with a project involving the reconfiguration and refurbishment of most of the heritage Memorial building and several key galleries, and since then a further three major galleries have been renewed – Anzac Hall, the Post 45 Gallery and most recently the First World War Galleries.

Our Role

RP Infrastructure was responsible for the project direction, briefing, management of design and construction and the installation and commissioning of all the galleries as well as managing the exhibition fabrication which included a complex mix of object interpretation and display, multimedia, graphics, artworks, high-tech interactives and theatrical lighting.

Key Challenge

Challenges in project such as these at the AWM include the need for full environmental and security controls to be implemented, and in a fully operational environment the requirement to minimise disruption to the visiting public and to normal Memorial operations.
