Penshurst Public School
Redevelopment
Featured projects
The Hurstville area in south Sydney has experienced significant population growth with increased high-rise residential developments in the area. The increase in school-aged children living in the catchment is placing pressure on the public education offerings. In response the NSW Department of Education committed to building a new school in Penshurst in July 2017. The Penshurst Public School is a future-focused education project that doubled the existing K-6 enrolment to 1012 students.
Project Overview
The new 3-storey State Significant Development, sitting on the circa 10,000 sqm site, provides a cutting-edge learning and teaching facility in an inviting and technology-rich co-educational environment. The design accommodates educational best practice and incorporates environmentally sustainable and accessible features and includes a rooftop play area. The project required the demolition of all existing facilities to provide a new Core 35 building comprising 47 new permanent Homebases including three Hearing Support Units, a hall, library and administration area.
Our Role
RP Infrastructure was commissioned in October 2016 to provide comprehensive project management services to manage all stages of the works from business case, through design to programming, authority approval, management of construction, school relocation and construction and commissioning of the ‘pop-up’ school. This scope included extensive and ongoing consultation with the local community and a heavily detailed options analysis to support the business case.
Key Challenge
Extensive stakeholder engagement was required to achieve design approval from the 15 internal stakeholders. Site remediation was undertaken within strict protocols outlined in the State Significant Development Consent.
