M6 Extension
Featured projects
The M6 Motorway Stage 1 will deliver the missing link from Sydney’s south to the wider Sydney motorway network making journeys easier, faster and safer. It will remove more than 2,000 trucks a day from surface roads, and help return local streets to local communities.
Project Overview
RP Infrastructure (RPI) undertook the PTE cost estimation services for Transport for NSW’s (TfNSW) M6 Stage 1, including two four-kilometre tunnels linking the new M5 Motorway at Arncliffe to President Avenue at Kogarah and ramps between the main motorway tunnel and the surface intersection at President Avenue. Tunnel stubs are needed for a future south connection to extend the M6—a new intersection at President Avenue, including the widening and raising of President Avenue at this location.
Our Role
During the estimation process, RPI was able to identify and address issues before they became problems. This applied to the constructability of the design consultants’ work on both the surface and cut and cover aspects. Excavation and disposal of contaminated materials incurred significant costs. RPI worked closely with the designer and TfNSW teams to review designs, identify issues, allow for reviews, and propose alternative solutions. Through this collaborative effort, the project informed the QRA to reassess the risk allocation and sharing arrangement. Furthermore, we collaboratively worked with the TfNSW concurrence team to address any concerns and issues. Our services resulted in estimated direct job costs that were within 10% of the tender responses.
