The Forensic Pathology and Coroner’s Court NSW
Featured projects
NSW Health Pathology’s forensic medicine service and the NSW Coroner’s Court planned to modernise the delivery of services relating to coronial inquiry and forensic medicine including family support services.
Project Overview
Health Infrastructure NSW had the lead delivery role with NSW Health and NSW Justice working jointly in designing and building a new facility at Lidcombe NSW to facilitate a modern and collaborative working relationship between the NSW Coroner’s Court and NSW Health Pathology forensic medicine services.
The new state-of-the-art, multi-level forensic pathology and coroner’s court facility features a larger footprint than the existing site; better facilities for public coronial hearings including two additional courts; improved public waiting areas; considerably improved amenities and technology for staff; and a modern functional design to accommodate contemporary work practices and family support services. The completed facility fosters greater efficiencies to ensure these services remain responsive to the needs of the community.
Our Role
RP Infrastructure (RPI) was involved from the business case to the schematic design stage. The project required extensive management of a multitude of stakeholders which presented a number of design challenges. RPI also updated the Master Plan and Feasibility Report by preparing a Precinct Strategy for the preferred site; reviewed and tested the Concept Design; and reviewed / validated the functional design brief, including updating the Schedule of Accommodation.
