Bruce Highway Upgrade Program
Featured projects
The Bruce Highway Upgrade Program, one of the largest road infrastructure programs in Queensland, aimed at improving safety, flood resilience, and capacity along the length and breadth of the highway between Brisbane and Cairns.
Project Overview
Beginning in 2013, the program was initially developed as an $8.5 billion 10-year commitment jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments. In 2018, the Australian Government committed an additional $3.3 billion, based on an 80:20 funding arrangement, to supplement its existing $6.7 billion commitment.
The program aimed to boost productivity, improve safety, and enhance flood resilience through targeted projects. It also focused on addressing safety hot spots, reducing the distance between electric charging stations, and supporting regional economic growth while creating employment opportunities in Queensland.
