Bankstown Airport
Tower Road

Project Background
RP Infrastructure (RPI) has supported projects at Bankstown Airport (BA) since 2021. In 2021 we were engaged to oversee the reconstruction of Tower Road, a major thoroughfare along the western perimeter of Bankstown Airport.
Project Overview
The reconstruction of the road has provided enhanced connections for businesses, airport users, and the community. The project has improved the road’s adaptability to climate change, the condition, alignment, and safety for road users and enables future aviation, industrial and retail development with onsite stormwater detention.
The works included:
- Full depth reconstruction of pavements
- Active transport link connecting north and south of the airport
- Street lighting, CCTV, and new parking bays with EV charging
- New private infrastructure corridor facilitating HV, LV, network fibre, security and aviation communications
- Augmented private HV infrastructure
- Major trunk Telstra, NBN and Sydney Water assets
- Placemaking, landscaping and security fencing
- Enhanced stormwater drainage systems.
Our Role
RPI were responsible for design management, procurement and superintendency for this project, including design coordination and project management of all airport-owned, private and authority-owned utilities and civil works including bulk earthworks, pavements, remediation, aviation compliance and stormwater upgrades to provide greater resilience to climate change and flooding of the airport.
RPI was also responsible for coordinating numerous tenants for works deeds, licenses and design sign off, as well as Management and Board Paper preparation for funding and facilitating community engagement ensuring our client’s positive relationships and reputation was upheld.
Key Challenge
The project scope was to be conducted within a live environment with the road and airport operational 24/7 365 days-of-the-year.
