The 25th Anniversary of Root Partnerships is a milestone we are thrilled to be celebrating this year – and celebrate we did on 25 July at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
It was a fitting venue given we were the project managers for the redevelopment of the museum from 2008 to 2012. As our CEO David Gundy noted on the night, it truly is a remarkable and quintessentially Sydney venue.
Our relationship with the MCA is one of the many examples of relationships we have formed that we value highly, and that have been critical to our success. As our founder and Managing Director Peter Root said in his speech on the night, the quality, longevity and resilience of the many relationships we have formed have been so fundamental to our project history: “In our industry, genuine and effective collaboration is at the root of every great relationship. Collaboration and great teamwork is the foundation for so many great projects.”
The result of these relationships is a portfolio of projects in the built environment that we are tremendously proud to have been a part of. From Aviation and airport infrastructure to the performing arts; school and university education to health and well-being services; major museums and art galleries to scientific and medical research; the creation of major public art facilities to the delivery of justice, transport and logistics infrastructure, and the Not-for-Profit sector – the breadth of our project portfolio is a reflection of the passion we have for embracing challenges.
As Peter says, one of the great privileges of project management is that, “In our profession we get to see the inside of so many different aspects of our community. We get to witness and develop an understanding of the nature, the idiosyncrasies, the qualities and the challenges inherent in our clients’ businesses.”
But while this celebration has given us pause to reflect on our incredible past, as our Chairman, John Taylor, says, “It is the future that we are addressing.”
It is significant that this milestone has arrived at a very exciting point in Root Partnerships’ journey – a point at which we are on a significant growth trajectory.
With the company more than doubling in size over the last three years the focus for Peter Root, David Gundy, COO Mac Lydiard, fellow Directors and the whole team is on continuing to deliver remarkable projects for our clients across a variety of sectors.
“Root Partnerships is a client facing business – our work only exists if a client has commissioned us to do it,” says Peter. “Over 25 years, over 1,500 times, a client has chosen us to act on their behalf. This is our baseline. When a client chooses to work with us, it is beholden on us to do the best we can possibly do.”
“It has been a wonderful and enriching 25 years – and incredibly, there remains so much more to do,” he says.
“So…the time for reflection is over! Let’s focus together, on tomorrow.”
