Burwood Student Accommodation Stage 2
Deakin University
Featured projects
Deakin University’s Burwood Campus needed to provide more on-campus living to cater for its growing numbers of students from regional Victoria and its international students. The university had completed leases which committed it to having students move into the new facilities for the beginning of trimester 1 2017.
Project Overview
The project comprises three new buildings in the Deakin Residential Services precinct on the Burwood Campus and complements the existing Burwood Student Village. It provides an additional 577 bedrooms as 2, 4 and 6 bed self-contained apartments as well as a multipurpose function room, study rooms, break-out spaces and a rooftop common area on the 6th floor.
Our Role
RP Infrastructure was engaged to provide contract administration and superintendency services for the project which was already in construction and facing time, cost and latent condition challenges. RP Infrastructure was required to provide structure around the project correspondence, to support to the university in discussions on the contract terms and to facilitate negotiations between the contractor and the university.
Key Challenge
Delivering this project within a fully leased and operational student housing precinct created significant challenges regarding stakeholder relations, and in managing the construction program. With its very tight delivery timelines Root Partnerships managed the acceleration of the construction works, and the associated commercial negotiations. Staged construction activities, weekly monitoring and detailed forecasting of works saw the project completed on time and under budget.
