Sydney Opera House
A Decade of Renewal
Featured projects
Sydney Opera House is embarking on a ‘decade of renewal’ to secure the building for future generations of artists, audiences and visitors. The renewal will upgrade or replace systems that have reached the end of their operational life, and reallocate spaces to be more visitor-friendly and to better support tourism activities.
Project Overview
RP Infrastructure is involved in the delivery of the first major stage in the renewal program. This project includes a complete overhaul of theatre systems in the Joan Sutherland Theatre, the construction of new facilities for accessibility including two new passenger lifts, new entry foyer facilities, and the creation of a new function centre. Staff accommodation will be upgraded and expanded, improved storage and a new ballet rehearsal room will be provided.
Our Role
RP Infrastructure has deployed key people into the Opera House Program Management Office, among them the Project Director for the renewal of the Joan Sutherland Theatre, and project managers for acoustic projects, accessibility and upgrade works, and the new functional areas around the Theatre. Whilst acquitting our particular portions of the overall program our team also works cohesively with other PMO members to improve outcomes for the entire renewal.
Key Challenge
The Sydney Opera House is World Heritage-listed, and is the symbol of modern Australia. It is the nation’s premier tourism destination and one of the world’s busiest performing arts centres. The PMO team must achieve the highest possible time, quality and value-for-money outcomes, whilst maintaining the Opera House’s status and reputation. Our team is committed to providing the focus and attention to detail required to achieve their successful completion.
