The Arthurs Seat Eagle project was conceived to replace an existing open chairlift with a state-of-the-art gondola facility. The enclosed gondola prioritises safety and accessibility and creates an experience that encourages appreciation of the natural beauty of an area, in this instance by opening up unparalleled views of Port Phillip Bay, the Mornington Peninsula and Arthurs Seat State Park.

Project Overview

The Arthurs Seat Eagle design includes an upper and lower station building, each featuring a loading and unloading area, cafe, kiosk, information centre, toilets and office space. The design of the gondola and associated site development ensures that the broader landscape, environmental and conservation values of the State Park were protected.

Our Role

RP Infrastructure was engaged to undertake a review of the proposal and to assist in developing a business case to verify its financial viability. Subsequently, our role was expanded to include consultant procurement, management of design, documentation and delivery of the works, as well as co-ordination with Parks Victoria and the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council. We provided project management services throughout concept design, design development, tender documentation and construction.

Key Challenge

The Arthurs Seat Eagle project required the coordination of a number of separate contracts inclusive of the gondola system which was designed and fabricated in Switzerland, within a sensitive park environment and one of high public profile and expectation.
