Whitsunday Coast Airport
QLD

A smarter, more welcoming airport experience
Whitsunday Coast Airport in Queensland is a key gateway to one of Australia’s most popular tourism destinations.
With record passenger growth placing pressure on existing facilities, Whitsunday Regional Council needed to expand the terminal and improve the overall traveller experience. The goal was to increase capacity, reduce congestion and create a modern, welcoming environment that reflects the region.
The upgrade delivered a larger, more efficient terminal and improved supporting infrastructure, helping the airport better serve growing demand and support ongoing tourism growth.
The challenge
Upgrading a live regional airport while maintaining operations required careful staging and coordination.
Key challenges included:
- Delivering construction works outside operational hours to minimise disruption
- Adapting the design to meet updated security requirements introduced during delivery
- Managing labour and resource constraints following Cyclone Debbie
- Coordinating complex works, including new infrastructure and repurposing existing assets
Our solution
RP Infrastructure partnered with Whitsunday Regional Council to provide project management services from tender through to completion.
We worked closely with the client and stakeholders to coordinate delivery, manage risks and maintain quality throughout the project. Our team supported both the physical expansion and the broader vision for improved passenger experience and commercial opportunities.
By maintaining strong oversight and clear communication, we helped navigate changing requirements and external constraints—keeping the project progressing and aligned to the client’s goals.
“By working closely with Council and stakeholders, we delivered a more efficient, modern terminal that supports growth while improving the experience for every traveller passing through.”
