Health Faculty Consolidation Project
Deakin University Geelong Waterfront Campus
Featured projects
Deakin University has undertaken a consolidation and upgrade of the learning facilities and staff accommodation for the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the School of Health and Social Development at its Geelong Waterfront Campus. For students of the Faculty of Health, the refurbishment delivers professional and sophisticated learning environments that are contemporary, interactive and custom designed. For the university’s staff, the upgrades provide renewed accommodation, meeting and conference rooms, and enhanced university facilities.
Project overview
This refurbishment of the existing facilities within Building D and Building AD of the Waterfront Campus provide a range of new specialist clinical simulation centres and laboratories for Nursing, Midwifery and Occupational Therapy students. The new facilities provide a safe and controlled learning environment while reflecting real working conditions, positioning the students of Deakin University well for graduate employment.
Our role
RP Infrastructure was engaged to undertake contract administration and project management on behalf of Deakin University. Root Partnerships prepared tender documentation, administered the tender process, provided project management for the duration of the project and acted as superintendent through the project’s three-stage construction. Root Partnerships’ role was to ensure the defined scope of works for the upgrades to the Faculty of Health were delivered on time and on budget.
Key challenge
A live and functioning university environment presented a key challenge for Root Partnerships’ project team. To ensure specialist teaching spaces could remain operational in line with Deakin University’s requirements a three-stage construction program was designed and implemented. Timing and coordination of construction had to consider student classes, semester programs and broader campus events. The staging of construction mitigated disturbance to the live learning environment, while regular planning, programming and client meetings monitored the Contractor’s performance and assured project milestones were achieved.
