At RP Infrastructure, we’re committed to creating opportunities for young people to explore careers across property, construction and infrastructure, helping them discover the diverse pathways available within our industry.
Recently, our Sydney team welcomed Amelie Wardle from Rosebank College for a week of work experience, offering a behind-the-scenes look at our projects, people and the work involved in delivering essential community infrastructure.
A week of learning and discovery
Throughout the week, Amelie spent time with teams across the business, gaining an understanding of the different disciplines involved in project delivery.
From exploring our work across the education and health sectors to learning about the financial aspects of project delivery and the role finance plays across the business, the experience provided valuable insight into the collaboration, planning and expertise required to bring complex projects to life.
Amelie particularly enjoyed meeting people from different professional backgrounds and discovering how multiple organisations work together to deliver major infrastructure projects.
Behind the scenes of healthcare infrastructure
A highlight of Amelie’s week was the opportunity to visit several major Sydney healthcare facilities, facilitated by Irene Hing, RPI’s National Lead – Health Facility Planning.
These visits offered a unique perspective on the complexity of healthcare environments and the important role that infrastructure planning and project delivery play in supporting patient care.
One of Amelie’s favourite experiences was visiting operating theatres, where she had the opportunity to change into scrubs, navigate a patient journey and see specialised medical equipment up close.
Drawing on her nursing background and extensive experience in health facility planning, Irene was able to explain the clinical functions of these spaces and the considerations that influence their design and operation, bringing the experience to life.
Creating meaningful career experiences
Reflecting on her week, Amelie shared overwhelmingly positive feedback, particularly appreciating the variety of experiences, opportunities to interact with industry professionals and the structure of the program.
The experience also highlighted the breadth of career opportunities available within the industry, extending well beyond traditional perceptions of construction.
A special thank you to Irene for going above and beyond to coordinate the hospital visits, and to Alison Holland and everyone across our Sydney team who helped make Amelie’s week so engaging and rewarding.
We were delighted to welcome Amelie to RPI and hope the experience has inspired her to continue exploring the many opportunities available across property, construction and infrastructure.
“One of my favourite parts of the week was visiting the operating theatres and seeing all the technology and equipment up close. It was really interesting to hear Irene explain how everything works and to learn about the different people and organisations involved in delivering hospital projects. The whole week gave me a much better understanding of the different careers available in the industry.”
