At RP Infrastructure, strong project outcomes start with great people and teams. For Executive Director Jason Armstrong, that means bringing people together, embracing new ideas and making the most of the opportunities each day presents.
Based in our Melbourne office, Jason leads our Education, Science & Technology team. What excites him most about his role is working alongside a high-performing team of motivated people who are focused on achieving great outcomes for clients and each other.
Embracing innovation while staying connected
Looking ahead, Jason sees innovation as one of the biggest opportunities for the industry.
He believes solutions including modular construction, automation and AI have an important role to play in improving productivity and helping meet Australia’s future construction needs. At the same time, he believes maintaining strong human connections will remain fundamental to great project delivery.
For Jason, the principles behind strong leadership are straightforward: lead by example, do what you say you will do, work as a team and, most importantly, make the most of every day.
It’s a practical reminder that strong relationships are often the foundation for successful projects.
A memorable project
One project that stands out for Jason is the Monash University Stage 1 Student Residential development (VIC), which delivered 1,000 student beds across 4 buildings, involving 4 different architectural practices within a live operating campus.
“It was an amazingly fast-paced project with a motivated team who were all driven to achieve a great outcome,” Jason says.
It’s the teamwork that continues to resonate with him — and when asked how he hopes his own team would describe him in one word, his answer is simple: “Teammate.”
Enjoy the journey
Jason’s approach to his career has also been shaped by a simple piece of advice he received along the way: “Enjoy the journey.”
It’s a philosophy he encourages those starting their careers at RPI to embrace.
“Throw yourself ‘all in’. Don’t waste a moment of the opportunities in front of you.”
Outside of work, Jason has followed another passion for more than 30 years: umpiring AFL football, including at AFL and AFLW senior level.
Whether on a project or the football field, his focus remains firmly on teamwork, making the most of every opportunity and enjoying the journey along the way.
